Skateboarding Kicks Created Right — My Own Critique On The Ipath Locust
Below is my report on the ipath shoes that I’ve had for approximately one month now, the Locust model.
I had to spend a while to get these shoes broken in properly. I’d suggest holding out on skating with these shoes until you feel like you’ve broken them in completely. A day or two of wearing them around the house or as general street wear should be more than enough to get the factory rigidity from them. While we’re on the topic of comfort, another thing to make note of is that the locusts are a hi top shoe, so you’re going to prefer to wear full length socks to stop chafing. After breaking these shoes in, they definitely fit true. These kicks are great for skating in. I was initially worried they’d be a touch too wide, but they’re just right. If you’re wondering why they appear so wide, that questions is answered once you set your foot inside the shoe. The padding, and subsequently the comfort of the shoe is off the hook. Skate shoes that are sized true can be tough to find, so if you have sizing issues these shoes are undoubtedly worth your consideration due to their precision in sizing. For anyone who is short on cash and you always wear cheap skateboarding shoes give these a go. I believe you’ll see that they’re well worth throwing down a couple of bucks more for.
Don’t worry about grip either, the Locust has absurdly good grip for skating! My last pair of shoes were Vans, and the Locust blows them out of the water as much as grip can be involved. If you’re the kind of skater who likes to have their feet glued to the board, these shoes have the level of grip you’ve been trying to find. A velcro strap will make sure that your feet stay in the shoe just as well as the shoe stays on the board.
Considering the hell I put my shoes through, they’ve held up really well over the last month. There’s some wear in the toe stitching, but I skate 4-6 hours a day seven days a week so that’s kind of expected. The thing you might like to consider if durability is a huge concern for you is that the locust is a canvas shoe, so it won’t endure as well in the long run as a leather shoe.
The Locusts feature what’s become a staple of skate shoes, the stash pocket, and are made from organically grown hemp and cotton in support of the green movement. These shoes also possess a leather upper with rounded toe, a special customizable ankle strap for added comfort and fit (a feature I completely love) toe ventilation, foam padded lining, removable CHT insole created out of coconut skin which Ipath claims will help your feet breath alot. Finally, the shoes feature an impact-reducing gel system in the heel to absorb the shock from rocky landings.
